The office loft as a contemporary workspace in a Gründerzeit-style building in the center of Vienna. Once again, the flexibility of Vienna’s Gründerzeit-style buildings is evident: an upper-class apartment has been transformed into a modern working environment that combines functionality and atmosphere.
The spacious kitchen with a kitchen island forms the communicative center of the loft—a place for exchange, ideas, and shared breaks. This is also where the newly added balcony overlooking the green inner courtyard is located, extending the workspace outdoors and offering space to breathe – a piece of nature in the middle of the city.
A compact, newly integrated shower room provides flexibility in everyday office life, whether for longer working days or as a space for short workouts in between.
Material dialogue between existing and new
The steel frame constructions required for the new room concept are deliberately left visible to highlight the intervention in the existing structure. The existing star parquet flooring has been carefully restored and supplemented with panel parquet obtained from the Vienna Hofburg during renovation work. Individually designed cement tiles and patinated metal fronts in the kitchen characterize the new communal area and underline its unique identity.
The shower room is concealed behind a mirrored sliding wall and impresses with its combination of a seamless epoxy resin floor and small strip tiles, which give the small room a harmonious shape.
